Tamsulosin is a medication used to treat benign prosthetic hyperplasia (BPH). It is available as a brand name or generic drug and is an oral capsule.
Tamsulosin is a medication typically used to treat benign prosthetic hyperplasia, or BPH. The brand name equivalent of Tamsulosin is called Flomax.
Tamsulosin is taken once daily. Tamsulosin blocks receptors in the prostate to lead to relaxation of the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which can improve urine flow and other symptoms of BPH.
The most common side effects of Tamsulosin include headache, back pain, diarrhea, dizziness, runny nose, throat irritation and fatigue.

For the most benefit, take Tamsulosin about 30 minutes following a meal at the same time every day. Swallow this medication whole; do not chew, open or crush.
Tell your doctor if you have any unusual chest pains while taking Tamsulosin. This medication can also cause a serious eye condition. It is important to talk to your doctor before having any cataract or other eye surgeries.
This medication can lower your blood pressure when you stand quickly. To lower the chance of getting dizzy or passing out, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down.
