Pramipexole is a medication used to treat Parkinson’s disease and restless leg syndrome. This medication works by increasing dopamine levels in the body. The brand name equivalent of Pramipexole is called Mirapex.
Pramipexole comes as an oral tablet in immediate-release or extended-release formulations. Pramipexole is typically taken 1-3 times per day depending on what formulation you are taking and what condition you are treating.
Common side effects include headache, upset stomach, constipation, insomnia, dizziness, fatigue, diarrhea, weight loss and stuffy nose.

Pramipexole can be taken with or without food. If you are taking this medication for restless leg syndrome, take your dose 2-3 hours before bedtime for the most benefit. Avoid drinking alcohol with Pramipexole.
Pramipexole can cause you to fall asleep during important activities. This can occur even if you do not feel tired.
Avoid driving or doing other activities that require you to be alert after taking this medication. Let your doctor know if you experience severe drowsiness.
Changes in posture have happened while taking pramipexole. This includes neck bending forward, bending forward at the waist, or tilting sideways when you sit, stand or walk. Changes in posture can happen months after you start the medication or after an increased dose.
Stopping Pramipexole suddenly without talking to your doctor can increase your risk of side effects and withdrawal symptoms.
