Controlling your cholesterol is very important to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Gemfibrozil works to lower cholesterol, but you may not feel the effects. Do not stop taking Gemfibrozil without talking to your doctor.
Take the first dose of Gemfibrozil 30 minutes before breakfast and the second dose 30 minutes before dinner. Avoid taking colestipol or cholestyramine within 2 hours of taking gemfibrozil.
If you experience muscle pain, talk to your doctor. Gemfibrozil can cause muscle aches and weakness that can indicate a muscle problem that may or may not impact the kidneys.
Gemfibrozil can cause gallstones. Signs of gallstones include sudden pain in the upper right stomach or between the shoulder blades, yellow skin or eyes or fever with chills.
