Eliquis Medicare Coverage

Eliquis is a prescription medication that contains the active ingredient Apixaban. It is an oral medication taken twice daily for prevention or treatment of blood clots in patients with or without atrial fibrillation.

Eliquis inhibits clotting factor Xa and inhibits platelet activation and fibrin clot formation.

The most common side effects of Eliquis include bleeding and bruising easily.

Does Medicare cover Eliquis?

According to GoodRx, 99% of Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Part D plans covered Eliquis in 2023.¹

• Medicare Advantage plans or Part D plans that cover Eliquis include copay amounts that can range widely from one plan to another. Plan members may also be responsible for meeting a deductible before the plan’s drug coverage kicks in.
  
  
• Medicare Advantage plans that offer prescription drug coverage are called Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plans (MA-PD). 89% of 2024 Medicare Advantage plans include prescription drug coverage.²

While many patients can safely use Eliquis, it is not currently recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
It is important to tell any doctor you visit that you are on a blood thinning medication, especially before any surgery, medical or dental procedure.

Your risk of bleeding may be increased if you are taking aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen or naproxen) or warfarin, along with other prescription or over-the-counter drugs. Talk to your doctor about your medications before starting Eliquis.

If you take Eliquis, do not stop taking it without talking to a doctor. Stopping Eliquis inappropriately may increase the risk of stroke.

If you are taking Eliquis, call your doctor immediately if you experience unusual signs of bleeding. This includes bleeding that lasts a long time, severe bleeding, pink or red-colored urine, red or black stools and vomiting blood or a substance that looks similar to coffee grounds. Eliquis is not indicated for patients with artificial heart valves or have problems with abnormal bleeding.
