Disopyramide is a medication used to treat abnormal heartbeat. Disopyramide is available as a brand name or generic drug and comes as an oral capsule.
Disopyramide is a medication used to treat a type of abnormal heartbeat called ventricular arrhythmia. Disopyramide disrupts abnormal electrical signals in the heart to keep your heart in a normal rhythm.
The brand name equivalent of Disopyramide is called Norpace.
Disopyramide comes as a short acting or long acting oral capsule. The short acting capsule is taken 4 times daily, while the long acting capsule is taken 2 times daily.
Common side effects of this medication include headache, constipation, dry mouth, dry nose, dry eyes, fatigue, dizziness, bloating, gas and upset stomach.

If you’re taking the short acting Disopyramide capsules, a liquid suspension can be made if you cannot swallow pills. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist. If you are taking long-acting capsules, swallow the capsule whole.
A different type of abnormal heartbeat called QT-prolongation has occurred as a side effect in some cases with Disopyramide. This can lead to an unsafe abnormal heartbeat called torsades de pointes. Get medical attention immediately if you have a fast or funny feeling heartbeat, or if you pass out.
Heart failure has happened while taking Disopyramide. Let your doctor know if you have a history of heart disease and call your doctor if you have shortness of breath, weight gain, abnormal heartbeat or swelling in the arms and legs.
