Adderall is a medication used to treat ADHD and narcolepsy. Adderall is available as a brand name or in generic form and comes as an oral capsule or an oral tablet.
Adderall is a medication that contains a combination of the active ingredients dextroamphetamine and amphetamine. Adderall is a stimulant medication that increases norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain to improve brain function. It is a schedule II medication due to its high potential for abuse.
Adderall is used to treat attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and can also be used to treat narcolepsy.
Adderall comes as an immediate release form or an extended release form. The immediate release form is taken 1-2 times daily, while the extended release form is taken 1 time daily.
Common side effects of Adderall include nervousness, excitability, headache, loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, dizziness, weakness, dry mouth, weight loss and upset stomach.

If you are taking the immediate release form of Adderall, take with or without food. Take your last dose of the day at least 4 hours before bedtime to avoid insomnia.
If you are taking an extended release form of Adderall, take your dose in the morning. This medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken the same way every time you take it.
Only use this medication if it was prescribed to you by the doctor. If you have ever had problems with addiction, let your doctor know before starting Adderall.
Adderall can cause high blood pressure, mood changes and a serious problem called serotonin syndrome. Signs of serotonin syndrome include confusion, hallucinations, fever, abnormal heartbeat, muscle twitching, shaking, upset stomach and headache.
Heart attack, stroke and sudden death have occurred in adults taking Adderall. Call your doctor immediately if you have an abnormal heartbeat, weakness on 1 side of the body, trouble speaking or thinking, change in balance, change in eyesight, chest pain, shortness of breath or dizziness.
